Born and raised on a horse farm in Virginia with three older brothers, I had quite a unique childhood. While my friends were all having play dates, watching movies and going to the pool, you could find me pulling weeds around the farm alongside my brothers, trimming hedges, cleaning horse stalls, or my personal favorite, clearing algae from our pond! Fortunately, my parents were advocates for participation in non-farm-related activities too, and it wasn’t long before I fell in love with team sports. I played soccer, lacrosse, basketball and ran cross-country through high school. It was during this time that my brothers and I sought additional training outside of team practices to fulfill our competitive edge, and we joined an outdoor morning boot camp program called SEAL Team Physical Training, led by former Navy SEAL John McGuire. We would train for an hour before school and resume our normal sports practices in the afternoons. Needless to say, I was hooked on fitness.
My love for fitness evolved into a passion for health and wellness with a focus on nutrition as the foundation. I decided to study Human Nutrition, Food and Exercise at Virginia Tech, and graduated with my B.S. as well as a B.A. in Spanish. During my undergrad, I competed on the University’s club lacrosse and triathlon teams, discovered CrossFit, and in my senior year stumbled across the sport of obstacle course racing (OCR). That year, I placed second at the 2014 Spartan Race World Championship in Killington, Vermont and signed my first pro-team contract. I spent the next 2.5 years (including my final semester of school) racing professionally, traveling the continent for competitions. Additionally, I worked as the Lifestyle Developer for an OCR company helping others achieve their health goals through proper training and nutrition, as both played a huge role in my athletic success. Wanting to pursue higher education in the nutrition field, I decided to go back to school to get my master’s degree and become a Registered Dietitian, so in the fall of 2017, I began a two-year program at the University of Utah to do just that.
During my time in grad school, I took a break from OCR to pursue CrossFit, and had the great fortune of qualifying for and competing at the 2018 CrossFit Games with my team at Salt Lake City CrossFit. Again, nutrition played a crucial role in my ability to compete at that level and stay injury-free, and I was grateful for the ability to apply all that I was learning in school to my own practice. After the Games, I decided to focus my attention on helping others achieve their nutrition and fitness goals and built up a steady clientele base. Equipped with the education yet yearning the mentorship of someone more experienced in the field, I connected with Jenny as a JennyFit coach. I am truly excited to impact more lives through nutrition guidance as part of her team and look forward to working with you!
